Bio
Marvin Jeter graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio, Television, and Film with minors in advertising and journalism. After owning his own picture framing business in Jackson and working as a partner in an interior design business in Beverly Hills, California, Dr. Jeter entered the field of education working with students in behavior modification. He graduated again in 1997 from USM with a Master of Science in Psychology with and emphasis in School Psychology and the same year graduated from Jackson State University (JSU) with a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision. He has served as Director of Curriculum and Instruction for a US Department of Education high school magnet program, as a principal, district director, assistant superintendent and state director. Dr. Jeter completed a PhD in Education Foundations and Leadership at JSU where he was honored to serve his peers as President of the Doctoral Student Association for 2002-2003. He has also taught for a number of years at the community college and university level, a career that has included classroom instruction from kindergarten to doctoral level. Incidentally, he was part of the founding committee and initial faculty in the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa doctoral program in Education Administration & Curriculum Supervision as well as a guest instructor in the Oklahoma State University graduate education programs. Currently, Dr. Jeter serves as a consultant, writer, and event planner. He works freelance for the philanthropic group, Natchez United, and the Natchez-Adams County Educational Development (NACED) Foundation, both in Natchez, Mississippi. These organizations seek to increase the awareness and support for educational innovations with promise for improving the educational landscape of the Natchez-Adams County area. The NACED Foundation is in the process of proposing a network of charter schools to transform the failing districts of southwest Mississippi. Marvin lives in Jackson with his educator wife, Brenda, and their canine child, Tripp. He enjoys spending time with his parents who also live in Jackson as well as with his sisters and their families.
